Alcatel Space Confirms Its Confidence in Open CASCADE

Following the successful re-engineering of CORATHERM, its thermal simulation software for satellites, this world leader in prime contracting for space systems begins a second phase of functional enrichment.


Alcatel Space, through its Thermic Service and Research Department, has once again called on the expertise of the international Open CASCADE team to develop the new version of CIGAL 2, the company's internal application for visualizing the results of thermal calculations and constructing radiative and conductive models.

The first development phase has enabled creating a tool for geometric modeling and meshing that is designed to prepare data for the CORATHERM solver and carry out thermal analysis for future satellite programs.

New developments will allow integrating the direct capture of models from the major CAD software suppliers and meshing them with CORATHERM. A series of planned improvements will complete existing modeling capabilities and enhance the display of results, in particular for the representation of the curves that show postprocessing results.

Alcatel Space aims to significantly reduce the time needed for preparing thermal analysis by reusing existing CAD models and by incorporating advanced meshing functions. In a similar way, new ergonomic improvements in the data tree will facilitate the localization of meshed areas and the establishment of sorting criteria. Numerical simulation experts will thus have access to a user interface that is streamlined and easy to work with.
